Batman - The Fortune

This is my new painting Batman- The Fortune.
It's for a gallery group show called Fortune 100. Each artist picks a fortune cookie and must make an 8x8 painting based on their fortune. Here is mine.

It was quite difficult to come up with an idea for this. I painted another idea but I really didn't like it, so I did this one on the day before the deadline.

Here is the flyer for the show. Come check it out if you live in LA. The show is at Balconi on Olympic Blvd just west of Sawtelle.

I have two other Batman paintings that I did...and I'm working on a 3rd. Here are the other 2.

Everybody Dies Book Release and Gallery show in LA June 10th

This friday May 6th is the opening of my Phoenix art gallery show at Cade Gallery.
You can see some of the paintings here.

I am also getting ready for my first Los Angeles solo art gallery show at Lebasse projects in Chinatown. It's the Everybody Dies- A Children's Book for Grown Ups book release and gallery show. It will have an opening reception the evening of Friday, June 10th and run for 3 or 4 weeks.

I have been framing all the paintings. Each one is about 15 x 19 inches. I will have every page of the book including a few of the alternative paintings that didn't make it.

I will also have a new printed version of the book on sale with 32 full color pages. There are still a few of the first printing left if you'd like to get one at http://www.everybodydiesbook.com

If you haven't seen the book, you can hear me read the first half of the book aloud in the video below.

Ken Tanaka art show in Phoenix, Arizona May 6th 2011

I will be having a solo art show at Cade Gallery in Phoenix, AZ starting on May 6th (Friday). It will start with an opening reception on Friday May 6th from 7-10pm.

Today, the very nice men from the gallery came to Los Angeles to pick up my art work.

I made these two, very large size images of my robot friends Raidein and Great Mazinga. I'm not sure exactly how big these are, but their heads are about human head/Orangutan head sized sized.

Click here to see the work that will be in the show.

Cafemode art show October 6th

October 6th is the new Earthworks show at Shojin with art by me, Remi February, David Neptune and more. Hopefully Remi-chan will also be at the opening, so anyone who wants to come can meet both of us:)
David Neptune will be back home in Japan but his very nice photos will be hanging up to make you happy.

The theme of this show is "Collaboration". All pieces must be made by more than one person.

My piece is this water color that I made a few weeks ago with my friend BPPB. I put it in the blog a while ago already. BPPB drew the body of the octopus and I filled in words and face. The above is the framed version with a black pastel matte that I made. It is $38.

I hope to see you at the show.

Ken Tanaka Hand Printed T-shirts now at Royal-T

I recently made 4 different silkscreen t-shirts using some of my paintings. Each of these shirts is silk-screened by hand using no machines or evil robots. Even the screens are burned in the sun, the natural way.

Royal-T Maid Cafe and ARt SPace is now carrying my t-shirts and some of my framed prints.
There are various sizes for all the shirts from boys xl (which is good for girls) to mens XL.
.
If you want one, you can email me at

Kentanakala attt geemail dottt com. and let me know your size, and preferred color.

Here are the four prints.

I hope you like the shirts. I am hoping to start printing more and have them for sale in more shops in the US and Japan, and anywhere else that is interested in carrying them.
